Plus sizing explained
Can I put bigger wheels on without breaking anything?
Plus sizing is fitting a bigger wheel with a shorter tire, so the two changes cancel and the whole assembly stays the same height. Plus 1 is one inch of extra wheel, Plus 2 is two. The wheel gets larger, the sidewall gets shorter, and the car cannot tell the difference.
That last part is the entire point. Almost everything a modern vehicle does — speedometer, odometer, ABS, traction and stability control, adaptive cruise — is computed from wheel rotation. Change how far the car travels per revolution and every one of those systems is quietly working from a wrong number.
